HALIMA, 2024. Figurative Language in “When You’re Gone” song lyrics by Avril Lavigne (supervised by Kamsinah and Sitti Sahraeny). This research is to analyze the figurative language in Avril Lavigne’s song lyrics. It is hoped that the result of this research might to provide understanding to linguistic students, because this research used figurative language theory. The benefit of figurative language theory research is to make it easier for readers or listener to understand a clearer meaning of a song through figurative language analysis. Figurative language can also make it easier for readers or listeners to understand the meaning of each lyric in a song can be conveyed well. This research aims to get closer to figurative language in daily life. The type of data collection in this research is using the qualitative method, by analyzing data in the form of written text. The data is a sentence from the lyrics of the song When You’re Gone by Avril Lavigne. The result of the analysis of this song can be classified into three types, they are: Hyperbole, Repetition and Parallelism. There are five lyrics that used in Hyperbole, there are three lyrics that use Repetition and there is one lyric used Parallelism.
