Abstract (Abstrak)
ABSTRACT NURFAJRI NINGSIH, An Investigation of English Barriers and Motivation of The Staff at an Independent Institution: A Case Study at Institut Parahikma Indonesia. (Supervised by Abidin, Kamsinah, and Harlinah Sahib). This research explored the motivation of Institut Parahikma Indonesia staff members regarding their English learning and language learning barriers. This study concerned the factors that could become motivation and barriers that affect the staff of Institut Parahikma Indonesia in their English learning process, the kinds of motivation that staff possessed to reach their effective language learning process,intrinsic and extrinsic factors that affect their learning motivation, and the solutions as motivation of the staff to overcome their English learning barriers. Qualitatively, a phenomenological research design had been employed in this research. This approach focused on exploring and interpreting the experiences of individuals regarding the English barriers and motivation of the staff. The data have been collected by observing the intensive learning program and interviewing 10 staff members to gather in-depth insights into the participants' experiences and challenges in learning English. The results indicated some key findings such as the Identification of English learning barriers, Motivational Factors, Diverse Learning Strategies, Program Evaluation, and the Impact of Social Factors that have been elaborated on in various studies. To sum up, the motivation for English learning among academic staff at Institut Parahikma Indonesia is driven by several key factors. Their positive attitudes enhance life skills and personal interests, while proficiency in English opens up global academic and career opportunities, boosts self-esteem, and fosters personal and professional growth. However, English barriers, such as complex grammar, time constraints, and a lack of supportive environments, pose challenges to their learning.
