Abstract (Abstrak)
ABSTRACT ANNAS IQRATUL AKBAR. A Marxist Analysis of Social Class Representation and Its Impact on Treatment Differences in Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre (1847): A Sociology of Literature Study (supervised by Fathu Rahman and M. Amir P). This study explores the influence of social class differences on the treatment of individuals in Charlotte Bronte's Jane Eyre (1847) by applying Karl Marx’s theory of social class. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research investigates the depiction of class dynamics during the Victorian era, focusing on how these social distinctions are portrayed in the novel. The objectives of the research are to analyze the social classes of the Victorian era as depicted in Jane Eyre (1847) and to elaborate on how social class affects the treatment received by each class. The findings reveal that 1) the upper class which enjoys privileges and preferential treatment, reinforcing their dominant status, 2) middle class that experiences inconsistent treatment, reflecting their transitional position within society, and 3) lower class which is depicted as having limited agency, facing discrimination and social exclusion.
