APOLOGY STRATEGIES USED BY THE CHARACTERS IN THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY: SEASON 1 = APOLOGY STRATEGIES USED BY THE CHARACTERS IN THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY: SEASON 1

Amirah Valeria MS. Musa. Apology Strategies Used by the Characters in “The Umbrella Academy: Season 1” (Supervised by Karmila Mokoginta and Kamsinah). This study aims to describe and analyze the apology strategies in The Umbrella Academy: Season 1 using a descriptive qualitative approach. This method allows for a detailed examination of the dialogues and interactions within the series, focusing on how characters express their apologies based on the theory of apology strategies by Trosborg (1995). In this series, the writer only found 3 kinds of apology strategies including acknowledgement of responsibility (11 utterances), explanation or account (14 utterances), and expression of apology (25 utterances). The writer found 50 utterances of apology which is dominated by expression of apology strategy (25 utterances). Meanwhile the least used strategy is acknowledgment of responsibility (11 utterances). Apologies in The Umbrella Academy: Season 1 are mostly delivered directly by the characters, reflecting their sincerity and desire to maintain positive relation by adressing their mistakes. In contrast, indirect apologies are less frequently observed among the characters yet still play a role in conveying regret.
