HUBUNGAN JENIS PROTESA OKULAR TERHADAP PERUBAHAN MORFOLOGI KELENJAR MEIBOM DAN KETEBALAN LAPISAN LIPID TEAR FILM PADA SOKET ANOFTALMIK DI RUMAH SAKIT DR. WAHIDIN SUDORHUSODO MAKASSAR = The Relationship of The Type of Ocular Prosthesis to Changes in The Morphology Of the Meibomian Glands and the Lipid Layer Thickness of The Tear Film in Anopthalmic Socket at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital Makassar

Background: The study delves into the intricate relationship between the types of ocular prostheses and alterations in the morphology of Meibomian glands, as well as changes in the lipid layer thickness of the tear film in anophthalmic. The aim of this study was to examine the relationship of the type of ocular prosthesis to changes in the morphology of the meibom glands and the lipid layer thickness of the tear film in anopthalmic socket. Methods: A cross-sectional investigation with the population consisting of individuals attending the ophthalmology outpatient clinic at Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital in Makassar was conducted. The morphology of the Meibomian glands was assessed utilizing Meibography, and subsequent evaluations were conducted using the Meiboscore. The functional aspect of the Meibomian glands was measured by assessing their production, specifically by examining the thickness of the lipid layer on the tear film through Interferometry. Results: A total of 30 patients were included in this study. The distribution by gender revealed 12 males samples (40%) and 18 females samples (60%). The research reveals a significant correlation between the type of ocular prosthesis and notable alterations in Meibomian gland density, particularly in the lower eyelids of anophthalmic socket patients. A significant positive relationship was found between the type of ocular prosthesis and alterations in the morphology of the meibomian glands in the lower eyelid (p<0.05). No significant relationship was observed between the type of ocular prosthesis and changes in the thickness of the tear film lipid layer in anophthalmic sockets (p>0.05). Conclusion: In conclusion, there is a significant association between the type of ocular prosthesis and morphological changes in the Meibomian glands in the lower eyelid. However, no significant association was found between the type of ocular prosthesis and morphological changes in the Meibomian glands in the upper eyelid. Additionally, there is no significant association between the type of ocular prosthesis and changes in the thickness of the lipid layer of the tear film in anophthalmic sockets.
