Abstract (Abstrak)

NUR KHAFIFAH M. 2022. The Post-Truth Phenomena in Orwell's 1984. Supervised by Abidin Pammu and Andi Inayah Soraya. This study was carried out to provide an explanation for the post-truth phenomenon that was depicted in the novel 1984. In addition, this study also aims to describe how the post-truth impact on the main characters in the novel. This study takes a structuralism approach, applying descriptive qualitative methods to describe concerns or phenomena observed in the novel. The writers obtain both primary and secondary data to support the research. This research's primary data is George Orwell's literary work entitled “1984”, while secondary data includes books, journals, and articles relevant to this research. Following the analysis, the findings of this study show that the source of information used by the Party in spreading information to Oceania’s citizens is a medium that perpetuates post-truth and three statements disseminated by the Party to the Oceania’s citizens are classified as post-truth. As for the impact that Winston experienced as the main character in the novel, he was brainwashed through three stages: Learning, Understanding, Accepting, to completely submitting to the Party and believing in all post-truths propagated by the Party.
