Abstract (Abstrak)

Background: The clinical clerkship program involves clerkship students undergoing clinical rotations, which poses challenges that may lead to academic burnout. However, resilience training has been identified as a potential solution. Research has shown that such training can improve resilience among medical students, despite conflicting results across different studies.
Methods: A total of 23, year 1 clerkship students were recruited via social media, and each subject recruited a same-gender and rotation-matched control. Both groups completed demographic data, resilience perception, CD-RISC 25, and MBI-SS questionnaires. The intervention group received weekly resilience training for four weeks, and all subjects provided written and verbal consent before participating.
Results: Both the intervention and control groups had low resilience and experienced academic burnout before the intervention. However, resilience training significantly increased CD-RISC 25 scores in the intervention group and decreased emotional exhaustion scores while increasing academic efficacy scores (p<0.05). Furthermore, there was a significant correlation between resilience scores and the academic efficacy dimension score. The control group showed a slight improvement in engagement and a decrease in overextended subjects, but no decrease in burnout was observed.
Conclusion: The study found that most clerkship students experienced burnout and had low resilience levels, but after receiving four weeks of resilience training, their burnout symptoms improved, and their resilience levels increased. The study suggests that resilience training may be an effective intervention for clerkship students with low resilience levels who are at risk of experiencing burnout.
