Abstract (Abstrak)
The aim of this study is to describe the direct and indirect illocutions in english conversation especially in the drama riders to the sea. to describe the role of context in interpreting indirect illocutions which are different from direct illuctions,and to classify the types of direct and indirect illocutions into searle's five classifications of speech act.
