Abstract (Abstrak)

Megah Fitrian. R011221075. OXYGEN SATURATION CHANGES IN PEDIATRIC ENDOTRACHEAL SUCTIONING WITH HYPEROXYGENATION: AN OBSERVATIONAL STUDY. Supervised by Erfina dan Nurlaila Fitriani.
Background: There is a change in the oxygen saturation before and after suctioning intervention in patients on a ventilator, the oxygen saturation decreases after the suction. intervention is needed to maintain oxygen saturation, such as hyperoxygenation before endotracheal suctioning.
Objective: To describe oxygen saturation changes in pediatric endotracheal suctioning with hyperoxygenation. Methods: A prospective, observational study was undertaken in PICU. Children were eligible for inclusion if they were intubated and mechanically ventilated. Data on patient and suction variables (number of suction episodes per mechanical ventilation episode, vital signs and oxygen saturation changes during suction) including potential predictive variables (age, FOUR Score, Tissue perfusion, positive end-expiratory pressure, and hyperoxygenation) were collected. The main outcome variable was oxygen saturation changes during suctioning. Outcomes : A total of 163 suction episodes were recorded in 51 children. The oxygen saturation decreases occurred in 163 (100%) ETT suctions. But later increased after 120 seconds hyperoxygenation was given after ETT suction. The oxygen saturation changes were not related to age, consciousness level and diagnostic category. Conclusions: Oxygen saturation during suctioning with hyperoxygenation in pediatric patients using ventilators decreased during intra-suction and increased again during post-suction.
