Abstract (Abstrak)
Background: Bleaching is a conservative and effective treatment for discolored teeth. Residual free radical from bleaching agents that remain in the dentinal tubules can interfere with the polymerization of composite resins, thereby affecting tensile strength. bond strength. Brown algae (Sargassum Sp) is a natural ingredient that contains phenolic compounds which has the potential as antioxidant to remove free radical. Objective: This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness of brown algae extract (Sargassum Sp) in one-step universal adhesive system after intracoronal bleaching. Methods: Laboratory experimental research with post test with control group design. 27 bovine teeth were cut at the cementoenamel junction area then 40% hydrogen peroxide was applied for 24 hours. Teeth were then divided into 3 groups, namely group 1 (100% brown algae extract), 9 teeth that were applied intracoronal bleaching agent and brown algae extract, group 2 (non-brown algae) 9 teeth that were applied intracoronal bleaching agent without brown algae extract application, Group 3 (after immersion of artificial saliva solution for 14 days) 9 teeth were applied intracoronal bleaching agent then immersed and stored for 14 days. The dentin surface was restored with a 10 mm thick composite, then a tensile bond strength test was performed using the Universal Testing Machine. Results: average the highest tensile bond strength was group 1 (100% brown algae extract )and the lowest was in group 2 (non-brown algae extract). Tensile bond strength of group 1 (100 % brown algae extract ) was significantly higher than group 2 (non-brown algae extract) and group 3 ( after immersion in 14 days artificial saliva solution). Conclusion: Tensile bond strength in samples of group 1 (100% brown algae extract) had a significantly higher value than group 2 (non-brown algae extract) and group 3 (after immersion in 14 days artificial saliva solution). Brown algae extract (Sargassum Sp) was effective in increasing tensile bond strength when used with one-step universal adhesive system after intracoronal bleaching.
