Abstract (Abstrak)

Indonesia is a tropical country with varied geographic conditions, for example South Sulawesi, where there are many types of medicinal plants, one of which is the salam plant. It is a place where various kinds of medicinal plants grow, one of which is the Salam plant. This plant has been used and utilized as a medicinal ingredient or a spice in the kitchen. Based on this, a study was carried out on the Effect of Altitude of Growing Place on the Chemical Content Profile of Bay Leaves in Bay Leaf Plants (Syzygium Polyanthum) from South Sulawesi. The samples in this study were taken from three locations, namely Toraja, Palopo, and Gowa with a height of 792, 41 and 42 masl respectively. After that, each sample was processed, extracted with 96% ethanol and various tests were carried out. From this study, positive results were obtained for the identification test for chemical compound content, positive results were obtained for saponins, flavonoids, phenols and steroids, while for alkaloid compounds, negative results were obtained. And to determine the Total Flavonoid Content using the Spectrophotometric method, the results were obtained from three locations, namely Toraja with a value of 3.720 µg/mg, Palopo with a value of 4.614 µg/mg, and Gowa with a value of 2.052 µg/mg. It can be concluded that the largest value of the total flavonoid content of palopo area.
