Abstract (Abstrak)

Ayu Lestari Aman Syarif L, C12114309. COMPARATIVE STUDY OF PSYCHOSOSIAL STRESS
IN DIABETES MELLITUS PATIENTS WITHOUT WOUND AND WITH WOUND IN
MAKASSAR CITY, guided by Syahrul Said and Silvia Malasari.
Background: The International Diabetes Federation (IDF) reveals that morbidity and mortality caused by
DM are ranked 12th which is predicted to increase to 7th in the world in 2030. DM sufferers will also
experience some complications including injury or gangrene. Wounds that are suffered by DM sufferers
are the reason for the emergence of stress due to changes in lifestyle experienced by sufferers, thus
creating problems in the form of psychosocial stress. So that the complications caused require special care
for people with DM to minimize the possibility of stress.
Objective: To see a comparison of psychosocial stress in people without diabetes mellitus or wounds in
Makassar City.
Method: this study uses a quantitative descriptive approach. Data collection by interview using the
Diabetes Distress Scale (DDS) questionnaire. The sample consisted of 81 people, 41 patients without
injuries and 40 patients with injuries.
Results: The DM patients with wounds showed that of the 40 respondents, there were the most
respondents with moderate stress levels, namely 21 people with a percentage of 52.5%, whereas from the
group without DM, there were the most respondents with normal stress levels, namely 33 respondents
with a percentage 40.7%. The probability value obtained is p = 0.000, which means that there is a
comparison of psychosocial stress in DM patients with injury and without injury, where patients with DM
with wounds with an average value of 1.7250 tend to have a higher stress level than patients with no
injury with an average value 1.1951. Whereas when viewed from the 4 subscale statements, it was
concluded that the subscale is the most serious problem for people with diabetes without injury or injury,
namely emotional burden and the mild problem, namely interpersonal distress.
Conclusion: There is a comparison of the level of psychosocial stress in people with DM without wounds
or with wounds in Makassar City.
Suggestion: the researcher submits suggestions that further research can be done with a larger sample to
represent the entire population
