Abstract (Abstrak)

HELEN. Correlation Between Red Blood Cell Distribution Width (RDW) and
Platelet Distribution Width (PDW) with Clinical Outcome of Acute Ischemic
Stroke (supervised by Muhammad Akbar, Cahyono Kaelan, Andi Kurnia
Bintang, Hasmawaty Basir, and Gita Vita Soraya).
Introduction: Stroke was the second leading mortality in the world
and the one that caused highest disability in the world on 2016. Ischemic
stroke is seen ini 87% of overall stroke. Disability is seen in 3 from 4 patients
with varied outcome. Escalation of RDW and PDW value are linked with
acute ischemic stroke outcome. The study to evaluate RDW and PDW value
simultaneously in acute ischemic stroke outcome is not yet conducted in
Indonesia.
Objective: to identify the correlation between RDW with clinical
outcome of acute ischemic stroke
Methods: This research used retrospective longitudinal study that
took place in Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo hospital, Makassar. The data were
deducted from medical record of neurology ward that diagnosed with acute
ischemic stroke in 2020-2021. RDW and PDW were measured from routine
laboratory examination when the patient was admitted to the hospital.
Simplified Barthel Index was obtained upon the first week after admission.
Result: Reverse correlation was seen between RDW and stroke
clinical outcome with insignificant weak result p = 0,1138, r = -0,1509) and
low positive correlation between PDW and ischemic stroke outcome (p =
0,6928, r = 0,03791). RDW average is seen as the highest value in high
dependency patient (13,37 ± 1,417), the analysis among the three group
showed significant result. Meanwhile, the highest PDW average is seen in
low dependency patient than the other two groups (p = 0,5385) although it’s
not significant.
Conclusion: There is no corrrelation between RDW and PDW level
with acute ischemic stroke outcome. The RDW highest average level is
seen in high dependency outcome. Meanwhile, PDW average highest level
is seen in low dependency outcome. Further studies are needed to establish
the finding with serial laboratory test.
