Abstract (Abstrak)

: The incidence of thyroid cancer has tripled over the past 30 years, with thyroid
cancer currently the eighth most common cancer in the United States and the fifth most common
cancer in women. In Indonesia, from the registration of the Indonesian Pathology Specialists
Association, thyroid cancer was ranked 9th out of 10 most cancers (4.43%). In 2017 it was reported
that the incidence of thyroid carcinoma in South Sulawesi was 3.1%. This study aims to determine
the characteristics of thyroid tumor patients in the surgical oncology department of Dr. Wahidin
Sudirohusodo General Hospital Makassar in 2015-2017.
Method: This study is a descriptive observational study. Samples were obtained based on the
population from the medical record of thyroid tumor patients in Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo
Hospital using total sampling technique. Data were recorded and analyzed using Microsoft Word
and Microsoft Excel.
Result: Of the 137 cases, the highest distribution of tumor patients was treated in 2015 as many
as 55 people (40%). Most types of thyroid tumors were found in malignant tumors in 102 cases
(79%). The sex group found that most thyroid tumor patients were found in women as many as
106 people (77%). The age group found the highest number of sufferers in the 40-49 year age
group, namely 54 people (39%). The group of malignant tumors on PA examination found the
most malignant tumor group namely papillary thyroid carcinoma in 40 cases (63%). The group of
benign tumors on PA examination found the most benign tumors namely struma koloides in 9
cases (34%). Therapy that is often given to patients with thyroid tumors, namely surgery is 85
actions (66%). surgical therapy obtained in 2015 found that the operation often given was total
thyroidectomy in 41 actions (48%).
