Abstract (Abstrak)

Background and Objective: Periodontitis is inflammation that affects the supporting tissues of the teeth caused by microorganisms and can cause progressive damage to the periodontal ligament, alveolar bone and is accompanied by pocket formation. Many methods have been introduced for the regeneration of damaged periodontal tissues. So that the need for bone graft is increasing along with the increasing need for periodontal therapy. Various natural materials have been studied as materials that can be used for bone grafts. The use of chitosan(CH) and hydroxyapatite(HA) which have biological properties, namely biocompatibility, antibacterial effect, and as used for healing bone tissue. The aim of this study was to compare the utilization of chitosan (CH) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) in the regeneration of periodontal tissues.
Methods: A literature review was mainly conducted using PubMed, Wiley, and ProQuest to search for studies on the application of chitosan(CH) andhydroxyapatite (HAP) in periodontal tissue regeneration, with key words.
Results: This study yielded a total of 401 journals identified through a database search of ProQuest (n: 218) WILEY (n: 120) PubMed (n: 63); b). Selected articles were then screened, irrelevant research titles were excluded (n: 20) and full-text articles were assessed for eligibility (n = 6).
Conclusion: This literature review discusses the use of chitosan (CH) and hydroxyapatite (HAP) in regenerating periodontal tissue, the addition of materials containing chitosan/hydroxyapatite (CH/HAP) will be a therapeutic therapy for chronic periodontitis patients who require bone regeneration.
