Abstract (Abstrak)

This study aims to determine: 1) find a large erosion in the Jenepangkalung sub
watershed and Jenetalinggoa sub watershed, 2). To know the tollerable soil loss 3)
knowing methods and techniques of erosion control.
The research was conducted in Parangloe subdistrict, Gowa distric. It used a
survey method that consists of several stages of the preparation phase, a preliminary
survey, primary survey, soil analysis in the laboratory and data processing. Estimation of
erosion level was conducted by using the Universal Soil Loss Equation (USLE).
The highest erosion level of 2325.61 tons/ha/year is found in mixed dry land
farming on the slopes of 25-40%, then the plantation on slopes of 15-25% is 99.22
tons/ha/yr. The lowest erosion occurs at secondary forest on slopes of 0-8% is 0.006
tons/ha/yr. Erosion of land units that have greater than a tolerable erosion, conservation
measures must be appropriate, for mixed dryland agriculture on the slopes of 8-15% to>
40%, plantations on slopes of 15-25%, the settlements on the slope of 25-40 %.
Conservation measures for mixed dry land agriculture is the pattern of mixing plant
agroforestry sengon, durian, olive, mango, mangosteen, plantations of coconut, coffee,
pepper, vanilla and cocoa. While the mechanics are conservation measures with the
construction of bench terracing and well being. For forest crop is advisable to apply a
combination of plant multistrata agathis (Agathis dammara) with Acasia (Acacia
mangium).
