GAMBARAN KUALITAS HIDUP PASIEN DIABETES MELITUS (DM) DI RSUD LABUANG BAJI MAKASSAR TAHUN 2013

Background : Diabetes mellitus ( DM ) is a disease characterized by high blood sugar levels in
the blood. This disease requires attention and medical care in a long time, both in preventing
complications and in medical care.
Objective : To determine an overview of the quality of life among patients with diabetes mellitus
in Labuang Baji Hospital of Makassar.
Methods : This study used descriptive study. Sample was 30 respondents. The research instrument
used was a questionnaire WHOQOL - BREEF used to measure the quality of life of among
patients with diabetes mellitus ( DM ) in Labuang Baji Hospital Makassar.
Results : In this study demonstrate the quality of life among patients with diabetes mellitus in
Labuang Baji hospital overall is a good and their perception of their health is satisfactory. From
the dimensions of physical health, respondents were much in need of medical treatment (X=4,20).
From the dimensions of wellness psychological respondents felt seldom have negative feelings
(x=2,63). From the dimensions of social relations respondents were satisfied with social support
(=4,00). Environmental dimension of the respondents are satisfied with the physical environment
(X-3,67) and access to health services (X=3,67).
Conclusions and suggestions : Quality of life among patients with diabetes mellitus in Labuang
Baji Hospital is good on the dimensions of the environment and less on the physical dimension,
psychological dimension, and social relationships dimension. It is expected that the family and/or
health workers improve medical needs, spirituality, sexuality counseling, and recreation for among
patients.
