Abstract (Abstrak)

This study aims to determine the correlation between volume and type of inferior nasal concha bone using MDCT scan with the degree of nasal congestion based on Nasal Obstruction Symptom Evaluation (NOSE) score. The research method used was cross-sectional study. This research conducted in Radiology Departement Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo hospital Makassar from January 2021 until March 2021. Study population included all patients who was sent to Radiology department Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo hospital Makassar with nasal congestion that met the inclusion criteria and proceed MDCT scan examination. Using Multidetector Computed Tomography (MDCT) scan of paranasal sinus, we evaluated correlation between volume and type of inferior nasal concha bone and determined NOSE score to assessed the degree of nasal congestion. Diagnostic data statistically tested with Spearman correlation test and correlation is considered significant if p value < 0.05. This research involved 32 samples with equal gender distribution and age range between 17-65 years.
The results of this study showed moderate correlation between the volume of the right inferior nasal concha with the degree of nasal congestion based on NOSE score (p=0.002) and moderate correlation between the volume of the right inferior nasal concha with the degree of nasal congestion based on NOSE score (p=0.005), there was no correlation of right and left inferior nasal concha bone position (p=0.094 and p=0.590, respectively) and type of inferior nasal concha bone (p=0.506) based on NOSE score.
