Abstract (Abstrak)

Ummul Khair. Netrin-4 and Carcinoembryonic Antigen (CEA) as tumour markers of colorectal carcinoma
(Supervised by Uleng Bahrun and Tenri Esa)
Colorectal carcinoma (CRC) is a malignant disease originating from the tissue of the colon and rectum. Based on data from Globocan in 2016, CRC is the third most malignant disease in men and the second most malignancy in women from malignancy cases worldwide. The risk of developing CRC increases with age, More than 90% of cases occur in people over 50 years of age or older. Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA) is one of the tumor markers most often used in CRC disease. The aim of this study was to compare levels of netrin-4 with CEA as a routine screening and diagnostic marker, as well as to assess metastases in CRC.
This cross sectional study used a sample of CRC and suspected CRC patients. The number of samples in the study was 64 samples, consisting of 54 CRC samples and 8 non-CRC samples based on the results of their histopathological examination. Netrin-4 tumor markers were examined using the ELISA method and CEA with the ELFA method. All data obtained were grouped and then processed by appropriate statistical methods.
The results showed that the sample of CRC patients was more common in men (57.4%) than women (42.6%) with a mean age of 55.30 ± 11.075 years. There was a significant difference in CEA values between the sample groups of CRC and non-CRC patients (p <0.05), but there was no significant difference in Netrin-4 values between the sample groups of CRC and non-CRC patients (p >0.05). The median value of CEA was greater than that of netrin-4 in the metastatic CRC and non-metastatic CRC groups. The obtained sensitivity (88.89%) was obtained for CEA with a cut off of 1.31 ng/mL and specificity (50.00%). CEA is better than netrin-4 for initial screening CRC. Netrin-4 cannot replace CEA as a routine marker for CRC screening.
