Abstract (Abstrak)

EKO PUTRI RAHAJENG. Analysis of Urine Podocin Level as Early Markers of Diabetic Nephropathy in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Patients (Supervised by Fitriani Mangarengi dan Yuyun Widaningsih)
Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the microvascular complications of diabetes mellitus (DM). Podocytes are one of the structures in the glomerulus that form the glomerular filtration barrier. Podocytes are the first cells affected in DM. One of the characteristics of podocyte injury (podocytopathy) is podocyturia. The diagnosis of podocytopathy can be made by detecting specific protein podocytes in the urine. Podocin is a podocyte-specific protein, a membrane protein located in the foot processes, and also contributes to forming the slit diaphragm. The aim of this study was to analyze urine podocin levels as an early marker of DN in type 2 DM patients.
This cross sectional study used a sample of type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. The number of samples in the study were 71 samples consisting of 34 non-DN samples and 37 DN samples. Podocin was examined using the ELISA method. Data were analyzed statistically with the T, Anova and Spearman tests.
The results showed that there was a tendency to increase urine podocin levels in normoalbuminuria, microalbuminuria and macroalbuminuria, although it was not statistically significant (p = 0.150). Urine podocin level did not correlate with urine albumin level (p = 0.115).
