The research was aimcd lo know the responsible degree loward fisheries resource on purse seine by means of fish aggregation device rwnpon-Ughl based on biological aspeci, siz.e detcmiination of the mesh size and by calch and discard catch as well.
The casc study was applied with selecl onc purse seine unit on purpose and aclivcly involved in fishing operation. Sampling mcthod was also applied for fish yield by sample randomly approximately 10% off total fish catch daily.
The study result showed that purse seine was not fish rcsourccs friendly. Fish catchcs during research ware dominated by young fishes or immature gonad. The minimum total lengths supposc to catch for Indian mackerel, bigeye scad, yellowstripe trevally fishes were 178.07 mm, 203.38 mm and 253.69 mm respectively. The minimum mesh size should be uscd for purse seine is 3.87 cm. The degree of by catch and discard catch rate during the invesligation was still low if compared to the target number of fish obtained.
Regarding to the biological responsibility developmcnt of purse seine in the research arca it needed community awareness on the importance of fisheries rcsourccs sustainability. It was suggested to rclevant govemment institution as carly as possible to give fisher community an informal education eithcr as cxtcnsion or practical work continuously.
