Abstract (Abstrak)

Background: Stunting is still a problem experienced by the world and our country, stunting is growth failure experienced by toddlers before or after childbirth caused by insufficient nutritional intake. Other factors also play a role in the incidence, such as the availability of food in the community, weak economic development, poverty, and inappropriate feeding and the relatively high prevalence of infectious diseases. Adequate breastfeeding for six months has a good impact on growth and development, namely, such as protection for babies from various infectious diseases. By improving breastfeeding patterns, there are many benefits for babies to avoid risk factors for stunting.
Purpose: This is to determine whether there is a correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in Makassar City.
Method: This type of research uses a case-control design. The sample was selected by Proportional Stratified Cluster Random Sampling. The sample size was 80 subjects (40 stunting and 40 non-stunting toddlers). The determination of stunting in children under five was obtained from primary data by measuring the length of the subject's body. For exclusive breastfeeding data obtained by giving a questionnaire to the subject's mother.
Result: From 67 children who were given exclusive breastfeeding, 32 children were stunted and of the 67 children who were not exclusively breastfed, 35 were stunted. There were also 8 out of 13 children who were not exclusively breastfed, and 5 out of 13 children who were not breastfed exclusively not stunted.
Conclusion: There was no correlation between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting with the correlation test value of the contingency coefficient C more than 0.05. However, from the research conducted, it is known that children who are not exclusively breastfed have a higher incidence of stunting than children who are exclusively breastfed Keywords: Correlation, exclusive breastfeeding, stunting.
