Abstract (Abstrak)
Big blue octopus (Octopus cyanea) is an important fishery commodity and is mostly caught in the waters of the Pulau-Pulau Sembilan, Sinjai Regency South Sulawesi. This study aims to determine the stock condition and sustainability of big blue octopus fishing gear in the waters of the Pulau-Pulau Sembilan, Sinjai Regency South Sulawesi. Length data (Lm, cm) of 1373 rock octopuses caught by octopus fishing rods were obtained through measurements at collector traders and data on technical, economic and social biology aspects and legal aspects of octopus fishing gear were collected through direct observation and interviews. Stock conditions and the level of sustainability of big blue octopus fishing gear were analyzed using the Mallawa scoring method. The research results show that the achievement towards the ideal stock condition of big blue octopus in the waters of the Pulau-Pulau Sembilan, Sinjai Regency is 64% or the conditions are in the fairly good category. The condition of the rock octopus stock is not in the very good or good category due to things including the small number of age groups in the population, high fishing mortality rate and low percentage of octopus suitable for catching. The achievement of the sustainability level of rock octopus fishing gear from the ideal level of sustainability of fishing gear is 71,80% or a high level of sustainability. The things that make the level of sustainability of octopus fishing are high, namely the impact of fishing gear on low habitat, high quality of octopus catches, low impact of fishing technology, low impact on biodiversity, low fuel use, low investment value and does not conflict with national and international regulations and does not conflict with local wisdom.
Keywords : Big blue octopus, stock condition, octopus fishing gear sustainability
