Abstract (Abstrak)
Lusiana. RO11181726. Factors associated with the incidence of septal injury in infants with CPAP attached in the NICU room at RSUP Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo. Supervised by Kadek Ayu Erika and Tuti Seniwati.
Background: Septal injury is one of the common complications of continuous Positive Avian Pressure (CPAP) insertion. The global prevalence of nasal trauma is 85% -100% in Brazil. Several studies have found CPAP use causes septal injury. Therefore, it is important to know the factors associated with this incident.
Objective: To determine the risk factors associated with the incidence of septal injury in infants with CPAP.
Methods: This type of research is a quantitative research design with a prospective cohort approach.
Sample: 33 infants diagnosed with respiratory distress syndrome (RDS) and attached with a CPAP in the NICU room at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo Makassar Hospital. The instrument used was the modified observation sheet from Milligan and Ribeiro.
Results: There was a significant relationship between hydrocoloid replacement (p = 0.008), suitability of prong size (p = 0.03), septal treatment (p = 0.03) with the incidence of septal injury.
Conclusion & suggestion: There is no relationship between gestational age, birth weight and incidence of septal injury. There is a significant relationship between hydrocolloid replacement, suitability of prong size, septal treatment and the incidence of septal injury. It is important to improve nurse monitoring of the incidence of septal injury, especially the initial assessment of minor injuries and hydrocolloid replacement as a preventive measure.
