Abstract (Abstrak)

Harweni Banne Lidung. F91116005. Representation of Suicide (Jisastsu) in Haruki Murakami's Novel Noruwei No Mori (Review of the Sociology of Literature). (supervised by Nursidah, S.Pd.,M.Pd and Yunita El Risman, SS,MA)
This study aims to reveal how the phenomenon of suicide in the novel and its relation to reality in Japan. Reality in the period after the publication of the novel.
This research was conducted by utilizing the theory of sociology of literature by Alan Swingewood in revealing the relation between literary texts and social reality. This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach by focusing on the phenomenon of suicide in the novel and its relation to reality.
The results of this study reveal that there is only 1 type of suicide in the novel, namely egoistic suicide. Suicide that occurs in the novel is able to represent the suicide that occurred in Japan in terms of the method used. The methods used are gas, hanging, jumping and cutting the pulse.
