Abstract (Abstrak)

ERNAWATI.

Semakin bertambah usia(tua) semakin tinggi derajat herniasi diskus. Semakin tinggi derajat atrofi muskulus erector spine maka semakin tinggi derajat herniasi diskus. Semakin tinggi derajat atrofi muskulus multifidus maka semakin tinggi derajat herniasi diskus.

ERNAWATI. The correlation of the degree of disc herniation with the degree of paraspinal muscle atrophy based on lumbosacral MRI in patients with low back pain (supervised by Muhammad Ilyas and Junus Baan).

This study aims to analyze the correlation between the degree of disc herniation and the degree of paraspinal muscle atrophy based on lumbosacral MRI in patients with low back pain.
This research was conducted at the Radiology Installation of the Wahidin Sudirohusodo Hospital Makassar from October 2020 to March 2021. The number of samples was 50 patients. The method used is the Spearman correlation test.
The results of this study showed a significant relationship between age (p=0.049, r=0.280), erector spine muscle atrophy (p=0.023, r=0.321) and multifidus muscle atrophy (p=0.005, r=0.390) and the degree of disc herniation. The older patient age, the higher the degree of disc herniation. The higher the degree of atrophy of the erector spine muscles, the higher the degree of disc herniation. The higher the degree of atrophy of the multifidus muscle, the higher the degree of disc herniation. There was no significant relationship between gender (p = 0.761), nutritional status (p = 0.163) and psoas major muscle atrophy (p = 0.051). However, there is a tendency that the nutritional status of obesity and male sex are more likely to experience a heavier degree of disc herniation. It is also seen that the higher the degree of atrophy of the psoas major muscle, the higher the degree of disc herniation.
