Abstract (Abstrak)
Latar belakang:
Background:
ABSTRACT
Subclinical hypothyroidism is a condition of mild persistent thyroid failure. The prevalence of subclinical hypothyroidism in children ranges from 1.7% to 9.5%. Subclinical hypothyroidism is often associated with significant lipid profile changes that can lead to dyslipidemia.
Objective:
To analyse lipid profile levels in subclinical hypothyroidism and euthyroid patients
Methods:
This study was a cross sectional study. Patients with subclinical hypothyroidism and patients with euthyroid aged 1 month to 18 years who underwent treatment at Dr. Wahidin Sudirohusodo. The subjects of this study were divided into euthyroid group and subclinical hypothyroidism group. Lipid profiles were examined with an enzyme colorimetic test.
Results:
There were 34 children each with euthyroid and subclinical hypothyroidism. No significant differences in sex and age were found between the euthyroid and subclinical hypothyroidism groups. There was no significant difference in result of triglyceride and high density lipoprotein (HDL) test between euthyroid and subclinical hypothyroidism (p > 0.05). There was a significant difference in the result of low density lipoprotein (LDL) and total cholesterol test between euthyroid and subclinical hypothyroidism (p < 0.05). After regression analysis, only LDL levels have a significant difference with an AOR of 1.036 with 95% CI (1.001-1.072)
Conclusion:
There is no significant relationship between HDL and triglycerides with subclinical hypothyroidism. There is a significant relationship between LDL levels and total cholesterol with subclinical hypothyroidism and after regression analysis, only LDL has a significant relationship with subclinical hypothyroidism.
