Abstract:
The research that destination to investigate effect of the crab Trapezia present to the stony-coral growth Pocillopora which was transplanted to various habitat in coral reef, and to analyze relationship between the crab growth Tapezia and of the coral growth Pocillopora were conducted in coastal waters of Barrang Lompo Island, Makassar. Two treatments were applied: treatment A (a colony of coral which transplanted with a couple of symbiont crab Trapezia), and treatment B (a colony of coral which transplanted without symbiont crab Trapezia). In each treatment was placed randomly in three zones at two different locations with 3 replications.
This research showed that present of the crab Trapezia will put pressure or decrease of coral growth Pocillopora. This phenomenon explicitly stated that the crab Trapezia was obligate ectoparasite on the coral Pocillopora when initial time of transplantation. In location with a still good condition of coral reef and exposed from wave action was seen to be a linear relationship between the crab T. ferruginea growth and the coral P. verrucosa growth. While, in location with critical conditions of coral reef and protected from wave action was founded to be non-linear relationships.
