IS SNAKEHEAD FISH, RICH IN PROTEIN ALBUMIN, BENEFICIAL TO IMPROVE HEALING PROCESS OF COMBUSTION PATIENTS ?

Combustion was common at hospital and caused 12 deaths at Wahidin Hospital (in 2007) and in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (37-39%).

Randomized Clinical Trial pre- and post- control was conducted at wahidin Hospital on combustion hospitalized patient, The aim of this study is to evaluate the benefit of snakehead fish (rich in albumin) to healing process of combustion patient. Patients were divided into two groups. First group received hospital standard food and snakehead fish extract (450mg) and the second group received hospital standart food and placebo containing vitamin C 60 mg every day for two weeks.
Food intake was measured by WFood2, blood hemoglobin was measured by Cyanmeth Hb, albumin level was measured by bromocresol green method. Data was analyzed using SPSS and pair T test
The study showed significant differences (p < 0.05) between cases and control on albumin level, food intake and wound healing
Conclusion, snakehead fish (rich in albumin) can be used as a food supplement to improved wound healing, food intake on combustion patient.
