Age determination of Marbel eel Anguilla marmorata by utilizing yearly growth rings of otolith

Abstract

The age and growth studies of Marbel eel Anguilla marmorata in Indonesian river waters are very seldom conducted, specially using growth rings of otolith. The purpose of this research is to obtained age and growth Anguilla marmorata in the Malunda river, West Sulawesi, using otolimetri method. The present study was based on the observation of 10 sagitta otoliths with total length dimention range 28.0 to 78.0 cm . The von Bertalanffy growth formula which obtained from the otolith analysis result can be expressed by the following equation: Lt = 200 [1 – exp.-0,057 (t-0,00548) ]
